“Creating Mobility and Independence for People with Disabilities”

Today’s Meeting:

The Thanksgiving week Kenowa Ambucs meeting was used to discuss the chapter’s large events coming up in 2019 – the Memorial Day 5K race & parade and the October Denim & Diamonds event.  The group was also active with fines and a 50/50 drawing won by Doug Postma.

D & D will be back at the Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville on Friday, October 11 from 6-11p.  Ticket prices are dropping to $50 each which includes dinner, wine, beer and dancing.  Sponsor levels are “Platinum” ($2,000), “Diamond” ($1,000), “Gold” ($650) and “Silver” ($150).  A new twist will be a move to e-vites instead of printed tickets which will allow guests to pay for dinner and choose their plated option online.  If you are aware of any companies that may be interested in sponsoring or making donations to the silent auction, provide their contact information to Beth Pastoor and she can take it from there.

The Race/Parade meetings will kick into high gear in January where we work mostly on operations.  Race set up planning happens in February and everything goes live on March 1.  The 2019 date is May 27.  Many volunteers are needed for one-task jobs such as working with Classic Race on the website, working with Parade applications including getting those done online with a first come first serve option so the sooner entrants sign up, the better their line up number will be.

Future Hall of Famer

They just announced the slate of candidates for the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame and we have our own MVP in the Kenowa club.  Ron VanSurkum has been selected Kenowa Chapter’s Ambuc of the Year.  Ron has stepped up and become involved in everything we do from being the Platinum sponsor and volunteer at Denim and Diamonds last year to filling an officer post as the chapter’s new treasurer to volunteering at the Memorial Day parade.  Congratulations and many thanks to Ron for all of his contributions to our club and its mission.

A Red Letter Day

It is not actually National Red Letter Day but December 4 IS National Cookie Day, National Dice Day and National Sock Day (it’ true – look it up) but it is also the day of our next Club meeting when the City of Hudsonville will be our speaker and we will present them our Kenowa Ambuc donation of $5000 (yes, we are getting out the BIG check again) toward the adapted playground they are developing.  This is a great opportunity to see the fruits of our club’s labor go to providing a much needed accessible recreation opportunity for members of the greater Hudsonville community.  [Note:  In honor of National Sock Day, members are encouraged to wear socks to the meeting along with your big hat.]

Be of Good Cheer

Save the evening of Tuesday, January 8 for the annual Kenowa Ambuc holiday party.  Members and spouses are invited to meet at Osgood Brewing at 6pm.  Those who want to participate in a gift exchange need to bring a $20 gift.  There will be no chapter meeting on January 1.
