Today’s Meeting:

Our feature today was Dan Carlton providing an overview of the three state-wide proposals that are on the November 6 ballot.  The recreational marijuana issue generated some lively group discussion.  Please remember to vote.  Also remember to attend the regular Kenowa Ambucs meeting on that day at noon at Sunnybrook Country Club where our speaker will be the Grandville-Jenison Chamber of Commerce.

We also had an update today from Kentwood Parks & Recreation to let us know they did not receive the grant they had submitted for the kayaks for disabled recreation.  They will be continuing their attempt to raise $5000 for boats and a trailer.  Our club has cut them a $500 check toward that goal.

The club’s next after-hours social event will be held on Thursday, October 11 at Osgood Brewing in Grandville starting at 4:30p.  Come one, come all and don’t forget to invite both fellow Ambucs and new prospects who might wish to join us and make a positive difference in the community.

Annual Sponsor Recognition Lunch

The Sponsor lunch will be held at the next Chapter meeting (October 16) at Sunnybrook.  We will be inviting all our sponsors of the 2018 Memorial Day Race & Parade to have lunch on us and to be recognized and thanked.  We hope to have a great turnout so please mark your calendar and make a point of attending lunch on that day.

Marty is so (Mc)Fly

We previously congratulated member Marty Rogalski on his recognition by Legal Aid of West Michigan as the winner of the 2018 Michael Barnes Award given to an attorney who has made exemplary contributions toward the provision of free (pro bono) legal service to the poor and elderly in Western Michigan.  Marty will be honored on Thursday, October 25 from 5:30 to 7:30p at the City Flats ballroom, 77 Monroe Center.  We now have the constant contact link to RSVP to that event which is:  https://conta.cc/2OiSqyx.

Fun Fact (Election Edition):   According to factmonster.com, the term “gerrymander” comes from Massachusetts Governor Elbridge Gerry who, in 1812, created a strangely-shaped district designed to include voters likely to vote for his party.  The district’s shape resembled a salamander.
