Today’s Meeting:

Today was the annual Sponsor Lunch at the Ambucs where we honor and thank those that supported our club’s Memorial Day Race and Parade. Dave Hodge presided over the festivities and also gave us a hand out (attached) that briefly highlights the Kenowa Ambuc Mission. Many were internal to the club but we also hosted Kurt VanderLoon of Embroidery House and appreciate him taking time out of his December to be with us. The club will see to it that those who were unable to attend receive their photo plaques.

With the Sponsor recognition event, we had no speaker today. Please join us at our next club lunch meeting which will be at Sunnybrook on January 2, 2018. The regular Dec. 19 meeting has been canceled in lieu of a club holiday social event to be held that evening at Osgood Brewing, 4051 Chicago Drive in downtown Grandville. You and your guest are invited to join your fellow club members that evening at 6:00 p.m.   The club will provide some food and beverage. Those attending are asked to bring 1 wrapped gift per person ($20 max value) for an exchange/theft/re-steal type game.

50/50 Winner:   No drawing today

May I Take Your Order?

The 2018 restaurant calendars are here. This fundraiser, done in collaboration with the Walker chapter, is structured so that there is a daily weekday drawing for a gift card to one of several sponsoring restaurants. To be in the drawing, participants buy a $20 calendar with the entry application. There are 260 chances to win a gift card of at least $20. By all accounts, every Kenowa Ambuc that shelled out for a 2017 calendar won at least 1 gift card so the odds are good for you to be a winner but you have to be in the drawing to have your chance. We are asking each member to buy a calendar, sell calendars to others, or buy several to give away as thank you gifts for your business. Kelli Williams has the calendars.

Blades of Glory

Friday night, December 15 is our annual fundraiser in partnership with the Champion Grand Rapids Griffins with game time at 7pm. As in past years, the club has purchased an allotment of tickets to the game at a discounted rate and club members resell or give them to your family, friends, neighbors, customers, classrooms, churches and colleagues to raise money for our disability independence mission. We will be selling “Throw for Dough” pucks on the VanAndel Arena concourse before and during the game to raise additional dollars with all those proceeds going to the club. Retail Griffin ticket prices are $19-$22. You can buy or sell them (cash or checks payable to the Kenowa Ambucs) for:

$ 15 1 – 10 tickets
$ 14 11 – 15 tickets
$ 13 16 – 25 tickets
$ 12 26+ tickets

If you haven’t already done so, please buy some tickets and help put us over the top. Contact Kelli at kwilliams@financeofamerica.com to purchase tickets or volunteer to help at the game.

Denim & Diamonds

The Kenowa club’s “Oscars” fundraiser is transitioning to “Denim & Diamonds”. The 5th annual AMBUCS benefit will be held on February 23rd with drinks, dancing, noshes and both silent and live auctions. This is a significant fundraiser for our club, and we offer a variety of sponsorship levels.  Please share the sponsorship packages with your business contacts to help ensure a successful  fundraiser. We also need more items for the Live and Silent Auctions.  Contact is Beth Carroll (scarrol4@wm.com).

Chapter Miscellaneous

Chapter Board Activity:   On November 28, the Board approved a donation of $665 to the Hudsonville Public Schools adaptive swim program to fund the purchase of two specialty life jackets necessary to keep special needs students safe in swim class. The Board is also looking at updating our Chapter by-laws. Thanks to Marty Rogalski for working on this.
