Kenowa Courier – 11/7/17

Today’s Meeting:

12 members, 2 guests and a speaker met today for another “Branding Time” edition of the Kenowa Ambucs. The guests were Grandville Public Schools Principal Brian Mulder and Mary Helen Carter who attended with Dawn and, like her, works with exchange students. Branding Time extends through November and Veep Dave Hodge reminds everyone to attend the next Chapter lunch on November 21 wearing your Big Hat (if you’ve earned one) and carrying a membership application to invite friends and guests to become members of the Kenowa club. There is a mystery prize on the line based on member points earned during Branding Time.

Our speaker today was Paul Wiersma of David’s House Ministries. David’s House provides quality care in a residential setting for 37 developmentally disabled adults in 4 existing homes in Wyoming. They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year with a significant push to add 6 more homes with 6 beds each over the next 5 years. This will help reduce their waiting list of over 100 individuals hoping to make David’s House their permanent home.

David’s House was founded in 1987 by a local pastor and his wife who had a disabled son they were struggling to care for as they aged. They sought a less institutional option that cared for the whole person – their physical, social/emotional and spiritual needs. David’s House was created on this platform and currently employs a “care staff” of 68 to fulfill this goal. They have already reached their $5.5 million capital goal and begun construction of the first new house. Also notable is that our member, Doug Postma’s, brother was a resident of the very first David’s House and can attest to care provided by this organization.

50/50 Winner:   Kelli Williams
