Today’s Meeting:

It was a crowd of “regulars” at Sunnybrook today for our rescheduled Kenowa Ambucs meeting.   Our numbers have been down a bit recently so please consider making an extra effort to join us in June as we kick off the new 2017-18 Ambuc year.   Our chapter officers – President Kelli Williams, Vice-President Dave Hodge, Treasurer Doug Levering and Secretary Andrea Spagnoulo – begin their terms on June 1 and we will be back on a regular schedule with lunch meetings on June 6 & 20 and a Board Meeting on June 27. You are missed when you aren’t with us.

We had no speaker today as we used the time to have everyone help stuff 400 runner bags for the upcoming Memorial Day 5K race. For those present who wear a FitBit, your step numbers for the day must be pretty high as we put a little mileage on walking around the table gathering brochures, magnets, pens, water bottles, etc. but all was accomplished and crammed into Kelli’s jeep by 1:30. Many thanks to those present, including Larry Rosendale, guest of Kelli Gulch of WMCB, who worked together efficiently (and with flair) to dispense with this work.

50/50 Winner:   No drawing today.

Monday is the Day – Memorial Day Race & Parade

Things are looking great for Memorial Day.  The parade has approximately 80 entries and a flyover of 4 vintage planes has been arranged.  The runner number is approaching 400.  We still need more volunteers – will you and your family/friends donate a couple of hours that morning to our cause?  It really is a very good time and you’ll feel wonderful for contributing to our club’s success and its Memorial Day tradition.  The race setup begins at 6:00 a.m.  Parade volunteers should report to Mavis at 6:30 a.m.  Most volunteer duties will be wrapped up by the time the parade kicks off so you can enjoy the parade or move on to honoring the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and enjoying your family’s usual Memorial Day traditions.  Please send an e-mail now to Kelli Williams (kwilliams@gatewayfunding.com) to let her know you can help.

How to WIN After The Race/Parade

If you find volunteering at the race/parade builds in you a powerful hunger or thirst, we have a solution.  The good folks as the WIN Tavern, 7268 Georgetown Center Drive and just off the parade route, will be donating 10% of every tab that day to the Kenowa Ambucs to help us help those with disabilities toward independence. Stop in on Memorial Day for a meal or a frosty beverage and be sure to tell all your friends to do the same. Eat, drink, help kids. We think they will be open at 8:00 a.m.

Kenowa Swings for Kids

Our club is placing a team in the Walker Chapter’s Swing for Kids golf outing on June 2 at the Mines Golf Course.  Ron VanSurksum, Brad Cook, Jason Minier and Scott Pastoor will tee it up and spray it around.

Kenowa Ambucs Junior Golf Challenge

This annual event is coordinated by Curt Stuck and will be held on Monday, June 12 from 10a to 1p at the Pines Golf Course.  Young folks with disability challenges hit the course to learn a little about golf, hit some range balls and take on a few holes assisted by our Chapter members followed by a pizza lunch for everyone.  Lots of smiles guaranteed.  Be watching your e-mail for additional details and save the date on your calendar.

Chapter Miscellaneous

Dinner Winners:   Doug Postma & Beth Carroll both were listed recently as April dinner winners of the Walker Ambuc calendar sale.

From the May 16 Grand Rapids Press:   A David Hodge recently aced the 148 yard No. 3 hole at Orchard Hills Golf Course with an 8 iron. What are the chances there could be more than one David Hodge?

Fun Fact:   According to allthatisinteresting.com, Leondardo DaVinci could write with one hand and draw with the other at the same time.
