Today’s Meeting:

Our speaker this week was Kristen Schoenborn, a pediatric physical therapist with the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital (HDCH) and Spectrum – Zeeland Hospital. She is originally from Cheboygan and settled in West Michigan after graduating from GVSU. HDCH is a designated Amtryke fitting site and Kristen is interested in helping us get more Amtrykes or other adaptive mobility equipment into the hands of her patients. She says the Amtrykes are often more heavily used than some of the other PT equipment because they are “useable” meaning they are fun for her patients and their families and so they are motivated to get on them and stay on them.   The benefits she has seen as a PT from Amtryke use include improved head control, trunk control, upper & lower reciprocal movement coordination, endurance and strength. Over time, her patients can go further on them and even surmount obstacles, such as slopes, that previously stopped them. Kristen will continue communicating with our club to see how we might work together.

50/50 Winner:   No drawing today.
