Kenowa Courier – 4/4/17

The Official Newsletter of the Kenowa Chapter of AMBUCS – Chartered May 28, 1957. President: Dawn Martinson – Vice-President: Kelli Williams – Treasurer: Doug Levering Secretary: Andrea Spagnoulo – Sergeants: Rod Weersing and Nick Bakker

Today’s Meeting:

We had no speaker in this spring break edition meeting of the Kenowa Chapter of Ambucs.  Instead, those present were asked to take a few minutes to share with each other a little more about themselves – family, job, hobbies, etc.  If you missed it, here are some highlights that you might not have known about your fellow club members:

Rod W was a college cheerleader at Aquinas.  Ken K has hiked up Mount Washington and will do a 7 day bike trip across Iowa this summer.  Dawn M planned her wedding in 36 hours and serves on a charter school board.  Kelli G will be attending her 7th Indy 500 this May.  Nick B planned 4 student trips to Panama from Calvin College for his business club.  Dave H worked on the business side of Michigan corrections and is chairing the newly-formed Grandville-Walker Foundation.  Kelli W has 4 tats and a recreation therapy degree but is a mortgage lender.  Jason M is ordained to perform marriages in Ottawa County and turned down a full ride scholarship offer choosing instead to pay to attend Washington U in St. Louis, an expensive D-3 school.  Marty “Doogie Howser” R graduated high school at 16 and college at 20.  Eric H conducted medical clinics on Fiji.  Doug L, a CPA, showed up at the Ambucs meeting today despite the fact we are just 11 days from the IRS tax deadline and he looked like he was still fresh.

50/50 Winner:   No drawing today.

Spring Round-Up Round-Up

Rod Weersing, after dealing with the logistics of 240 separate pieces of paper reflecting the credits given to club members for signing up new members, attending meetings, contributing to our fundraisers and more, conducted the drawing and dispensed the “fabulous prizes” he has been teasing us with for the annual Spring Roundup of new members.  Congratulation to the four lucky winners from today’s drawing:

Kelli Gulich – $50 Osgood gift certificate

Terry Prince – $50 Rally House gift certificate

Peg Driesenga – $50 Home Depot gift certificate

Dennis Engels – $50 Cabela’s gift certificate

Dinner Winner Disclosure

At a chapter meeting a couple of months ago, we had a guest from the Walker Chapter who offered us the chance to buy into that group’s annual calendar fundraiser where there are daily drawings for restaurant gift certificates. I purchased one but announced I had a perfect streak of non-winning in the several other years I had purchased a calendar and vowed to let everyone know whether this year’s purchase would continue that streak. Perhaps that public pronouncement was perceived as a challenge by whoever is in charge of fate in this universe as I recently received a $25 Uccello’s gift certificate in the mail from the Walker Chapter funding some food/beer fun during the opening weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament. The streak is over (and I have 8 months of additional chances to win again).
