Today’s Meeting:

On the 17th day of 2017 we met again as Kenowa Ambucs at Sunnybrook for lunch and the furthering of our mission to create independence for those with disabilities.  We had 13 members and one guest attending and it was apparent we still have a good number of members with the opportunity to achieve perfect attendance in 2017 after the first full month of the year.

Our speaker was Jean Silbar, a speech therapist with the Comprehensive Therapy Center (CTC) which is one of our charity partners for the Oscar’s event.  The CTC was established in 1982 and its mission is to provide therapies (OT, PT, educational and psychological services) to children and adults with special needs so that they can better walk, talk, learn and play.  The CTC’s annual budget of about $800,000 is met by insurance payments, family payments, fund raising of about $100,000 annually and current contracts with 18 school districts (mainly small charter schools) to provide therapy for their special needs students.  Last year the Center provided $250,000 in charity care to all its clients.  The Center has an extremely high staff & volunteer to student ratio and, in addition to individual therapy, has an extensive “therapy & fun” summer program.  They also have relationships with the Family Hope Foundation, which funded therapy for 3-4 students last year, and Indian Trails Camp.

Walker Chapter Fundraiser

Ray Lighthart of the Walker Chapter was a guest of Scott Pastoor today.  Ray offered us the opportunity to buy into his chapter’s annual calendar sale that comes with a daily chance to win restaurant gift cards and several Kenowa Ambucs “forked” over the $20 to try their luck.  He thought this fundraiser would be transportable to the Kenowa club if we had a future interest.

No, Meryl Streep Has Not Yet RSVP’d
