Today’s Meeting:

16 Ambucs showed up today at Sunnybrook. Unfortunately, our speaker did not (entry error on calendar) so we will have to reschedule. We spent the extra time on club business. Nick Bakker agreed to serve as one of our Sergeants for this Ambuc year (thanks, Nick). His later win in the 50/50 raffle was attributed either as divine recognition of his selfless volunteerism to the club or chalked up as a blatant payoff, depending on whom you talked to. Either way, Nick won the cash. He also shared with us the good news that last week he passed the seven hour test that will now deem him to be a Certified Financial Planner. He employs those skills at Waddell & Reed in Grandville, conveniently located a couple of blocks from the bakery. Nick is married and lives in Alger Heights with his wife and a cockapoo named Cooper. Nick and his wife enjoy kayaking on Reed’s Lake and the Rogue River. No word on Cooper’s kayaking skills.

Kenowa Ambucs Officers & Committee Chairs

The Ambuc year runs from June 1 to May 30. Our officers include President Dawn Martinson, Vice-President Kelli Williams, Secretary Andrea Spagnoulo and Treasurer Doug Levering. The committee chair positions for this year have also now been filled and they include Rod Weersing (Friendship), Marty Rogalski (Service), Scott Pastoor (Information) and Beth VanWieren & Mavis Byers (Fun). Memorial Day Race Chair is Kelli Williams. Board meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday at noon at Grandville City Hall. Race Committee meetings (starting in September) are held on the 2nd Tuesday at noon. If you aren’t one of those listed above, we still need your help. Please speak up to volunteer in the areas you are able.

Chapter Board News

The July Board meeting was held last Tuesday. Highlights of that meeting include approval of $750 for replacement of an AmTryke and approval of $1,250 to Occupational Therapy Master’s candidate Michelle P for the 2016-17 school year. The date for the 2017 Oscar’s fundraiser event will be February 25. No date yet for the DJ dance for the disabled (sometime around Halloween) or the Griffins game (no hockey schedule out yet).
