Kenowa Courier – 3/1/16

The Official Newsletter of the Kenowa Chapter of AMBUCS – Chartered May 28, 1957. President: Mavis Byers – Vice-President: Dawn Martinson – Treasurer: Doug Levering Secretary: Andrea Spagnoulo – Sergeants: Rod Weersing and David Hodge

Today’s Meeting:

As someone there said, Tuesday’s Kenowa Ambuc meeting attendance reflected quality over quantity.  The school closures and slippery roads resulted in 10 Ambucs attending the lunch.  We also welcomed 3 guests:  Nick Bakker works for the Waddell & Reed financial planning firm that has opened a new office in Grandville and was checking out the Ambucs as was computer repair retiree Buck Bucholtz who was invited by Sheldon Cole.  Buck is also acquainted with President Mavis and shares with her a passion for the Green Bay Packers.  Lastly, Glenna Donovan, a 2nd year student in the UM-Flint doctoral program in physical therapy told us a little about herself.  She is a graduate of EGR high school and Michigan State University (kinesiology) who is enjoying her PT education and recently completed a clinical experience at an outpatient clinic in Marlette, MI.  The club sponsored Glenna for a National Ambucs therapy scholarship last year and voted to again sponsor her in competition for a 2016 scholarship.

There was no additional speaker – the remainder of the time was spent in networking and fellowship with our fellow Kenowa Ambucs.

50/50 Winner:   No drawing today.

Late entry from the last edition of the Courier: “I’m late; I’m late for a very important date!”

“This is It, The Night of Night’s”

THIS SATURDAY, March 5 is the big day for the annual Oscar’s Night at Sunnybrook Country Club.  This year’s festivities include Juliet Dragos of TV-13 serving as our Master of Ceremonies, improv comedy, a silent auction, dinner, dancing and wine/beer.  This is a critical fundraiser for our club as well as our partners – the Grandville Rotary Club and Special Olympics so, please, purchase tickets for your spouse, family, friends or co-workers and join in the fun.  If you can’t be there, sponsor a table or make a donation.  Contact is Beth VanWieren.

Everybody’s Working for the Weekend

The 80’s Canadian rock band, LoverBoy, had a hit tune with this.  If you, too, are always looking forward to the weekend and love a good party, see the attachment from the Walker Chapter regarding their annual Margarita Mix-off on Saturday afternoon.  A few race car drivers have pursued a 1-day double by racing at both Indy and Charlotte in May, it is possible for a single Ambuc to attend both the Mix-Off and our Oscar’s Night.  Will anyone pull it off in 2016?  (Designated driver highly recommended).
