Today’s Meeting:

VP Dawn Martinson chaired again on today.  Justina, a PT aide for Jeff Carter was his guest and may be a future scholarship applicant.  Also with us today was visiting Ambuc Bill Chada.  Bill recently received an AmTryke from the Kenowa Chapter and he passed around a thank you note and photo of him on his new ride.  Kudos to Curt Stuck for the assembly and delivery.  Ambuc of the Day was Dawn who volunteered that she works for International Student Exchange and they are 3 weeks away from the deadline to place 16 exchange students in West Michigan area schools.  Do you have room for one of these outstanding students in your home, even temporarily?  When not working on behalf of students, Dawn likes to travel, scrap book and volunteer.

Our speaker, Christine Gribble, was introduced by Family Home Foundation (FHF) Board member Sarah VanderBaan.  Christine is an award-winning photographer and the first West Michigan photographer accredited by Special Kids Photography of America.  She shared some of her great photos but mainly wanted to advise us all about the World of Wonder Photographic Art Exhibition on Thursday, November 12 that will be a fundraiser benefitting FHF.  Christine has two divisions to her work – a 20 year old wedding and portrait studio and an Art division.  Her art is focused on world travel and nature photography and she will have an ArtPrize entry, “Baby Elephant”, on display this fall at Tavern on the Green.

Christine clearly has a passion for portraits of special needs kids (the ones we saw were very well done) and for the FHF. She shared sponsorship and ticket info (attached) for this event which will include VIP elements, dessert reception, cash bar, raffle, silent auction and display of her ArtPrize entry as well as unspecified surprises.  Venue is The Cheney Place at 1600 Monroe NW in Grand Rapids.

50/25/25 Winners:          Marty Rogalski and Cherri Johns were the winners.  We will work on Sgt. Rod for a true 50/50 Super Special Single Pot in the near future.

 GPS:  “Recalculating”

A preferred and two alternative new race routes for the 2016 Memorial Day 5K Race have been submitted for official consideration.  We are hoping that we will be able to take the racers down Baldwin Street in front of the parade crowd for the first time.

Chapter Miscellaneous

1st Grandchild: Ken Krombeen announced that he and wife, Linda, became grandparents on July 21 to Connor Michael Krombeen.  Ken made a $10 contribution to the club reflecting Connor’s 9# 7oz. birth weight.  Mother (Haleigh), father (Michael) and Connor are all doing fine.

Ambuc National Scholarship:  Glenna Donovan, whom the club sponsored for a national scholarship, recently was notified that she had, indeed, received a 2015 Ambuc Scholarship for her pursuit of a PT degree from UM-Flint.

Fun Committee:  The committee is working on an outing to the Whitecaps as our next social event.  Details to follow.

Do You Have a Speaker Idea?  Do you know a potential lunch speaker or have an idea for a topic that might be of interest to our club members?  If so, please share that idea or contact information with Vice-President Dawn Martinson.

2015 Ambucs National Convention:  This year’s convention will be held in Biloxi, MS September 30 through October 3.  Those who haven’t had the opportunity to attend an Ambucs convention will find that it is an uplifting and energizing experience.  See: http://www.ambucs.org/assets/Uploads/National-Conference/BiloxiFlyer.pdf
