Kenowa Klassified – 4/7/15

The Official Newsletter of the Kenowa Chapter of AMBUCS – Chartered May 28, 1957. President: Beth Van Wieren – Vice-President: Mavis Byers – Treasurer: Doug Levering Secretary: Kelli Williams – Sergeants: Kay Janus and David Hodge

Today’s Meeting:

It was a Spring Break week meeting so attendance was a little light today.  We had no speaker but used that time to transact some club business including hearing about a new Spring Round-Up baseball-themed competition, electing 2015-16 club officers, discussing a new fundraising food tent on the Friday night before the Jenison Street Dance in August and taking action relative to a request for Kenowa Ambuc endorsement of a national Ambucs Physical Therapy scholarship.

On the last matter, we voted to endorse the scholarship application of Glenna Donovan, a first year doctoral student in the Physical Therapy program at UM as she seeks support from the national program.  There is no financial cost to our club on this – we are just indicating the club supports her application which could be very helpful as she competes for a national scholarship.  See below for further information on Spring Round-Up and the election of club officers.

Reminder:  The next Chapter meeting (April 21) will be held in the Rush Creek Room at Sunnybrook.

50/50 Winner:    Marty Rogalski

Play Ball – Spring Round Up 2015

Spring Roundup is one of two times per year the club focuses on bringing in new members.  Marty and the Friendship Committee have selected a baseball theme for this spring.  The concept is that every club member will select or be assigned a Major League Baseball team and, during the Round-Up, will receive a point for every game their team wins, a point for every bona-fide guest they bring to a club meeting and 5 points for every new member signed up.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 point-getters.  Start thinking now about who you (yes, YOU) could invite to join the Kenowa Ambucs.

Chapter Officers and Board

The Ambuc “year” starts on June 1.  Vice-President Mavis Byers will move up to President on that date and, today, Dawn Martinson was elected Vice-President.  We are still in need of a club Secretary (2-year term) and would ask anyone willing to serve in this capacity to contact Beth VanWieren as soon as possible.  The Secretary takes notes at Board meetings and files minor paperwork as necessary with National Ambucs.

Also, we would like to get some new members on the Club’s Board.  If you would be interested in appointment to the Board of Directors, please let Mavis Byers know of that interest now.

Giddy Up

The Kent Special Riding Program, which presented to the Kenowa Ambucs at a recent meeting and who the Chapter Board subsequently agreed to sponsor, has invited all Kenowa Ambucs to attend an open house and riding clinic on June 25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at their facility located at 9705 Morse Lake Road in Alto.  They hope to see Ambucs at their open house.

Chapter Miscellaneous

Do You Have a Speaker Idea?:  Do you know a potential lunch speaker or have an idea for a topic that might be of interest to our club members?  If so, please share that idea or contact information with in-coming Vice-President Dawn Martinson.

New Knee Scooters

Knee Scooters Purchased:  The Kenowa Ambucs have purchased two new “knee scooters” (see attached photo) to add to our medical equipment inventory at the Grandville DPW.  If you know of someone who needs a scooter (or wheelchair, bath chair, walker, crutches, etc.), please refer them to Bonnie at Grandville DPW (538-1990).
