Today’s Meeting:

19 Kenowa Ambucs met and dined Tuesday at Sunnybrook.  After Pledging Allegiance to a (cell phone) flag, it was noted our scheduled speaker had to cancel due to a family emergency.  Dan Carlton & I chipped in with a Township/City update.  On the Georgetown Township side, Dan told us that the old K-mart strip center building was down and only a little cleanup was still pending on that demolition, that the 200 Baldwin property would be marketed for sale (except for a piece near the intersection that may be used in the future for road improvements), that conversations about a plaza to honor Veterans have focused on the possibility of locating it near the fountain, that the most recent conversation about a Senior Center has been about a new building with a smaller footprint than was first discussed to be located just east of the current building and that work on a pedestrian path plan was underway.  On the City of Grandville side, the report included a very well attended Christmas parade and Tree Lighting ceremony downtown, a proposed small planned unit development with one restaurant and a Goodwill store south of Target on Ivanrest, early discussion about a potential high-rise residential development on the site of the former mobile home park on 28th Street near I-196 and upcoming City Council strategic planning.

50/50 Winner:   It was a “Super Special Single Pot” day and the winner of $23 was Dan Carlton.

Party On, Wayne

The Kenowa Ambucs holiday party deferred from December will be held on Tuesday night January 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Osgood Brewing on Chicago Drive in downtown Grandville.  Bring your significant other and a wrapped gift in the $15 – $20 range for each person attending for the gift exchange.  There wasn’t any specific discussion of RSVP’s but, it you are able to come, please let Eric Hartman (hartmandc@hotmail.com) know so we have some idea of our numbers.

Oscars – The Sequel

Everyone should be saving Saturday, February 21 for the 2015 Oscar’s Night gala – a fun night of dinner, dancing, drinks (included in the ticket price this year), silent auction and three comedians.  The $75 tickets are going on sale now (watch for your invitation) and will raise money for the Kenowa Ambucs, Grandville Rotary Club and Jenison-Hudsonville Community Foundation.  Look also for a sponsorship opportunity your or your business may wish to consider.

Spread the Word on JHS-Sponsored Disability Dance

The Jenison High School “Bigger than You” class that volunteered at our October DJ dance for the disabled members of our community and those who serve them will be holding its own similar event on January 10th at the Grand Haven Community Center.   They need help getting the word out.   Here is a link to their website:  http://jhsnightwiththestars.weebly.com/
