Kenowa Klassified – 12/16/14

The Official Newsletter of the Kenowa Chapter of AMBUCS – Chartered May 28, 1957. President: Beth Van Wieren – Vice-President: Mavis Byers – Treasurer: Doug Levering Secretary: Kelli Williams – Sergeants: Kay Janus and David Hodge

Today’s Meeting:

15 Kenowa Ambucs plus 2 guests dined today at Sunnybrook.  Amy of AP Tutors was the guest of Beth Van Wieren and Chris, a chiropractic intern, was the guest of Eric Hartman.  We also had two speakers from the Grandville-Jenison Chamber of Commerce – President Jim Engelking and Membership Director Jodi Joseph.

Jim let us know that the Chamber currently has over 550 members and serves 20,000 households.  The Chamber advocates for local dollars staying local and provides a long list of benefits and services to its members such as networking, leads groups, a new CEO Roundtable, advocacy, training and special events.  Members get these benefits for a low as $4.32 per week.  Jim says Chamber members are involved and they are a big part of our growing and changing Grandville/Jenison community that he calls “Main Street America”.

Jodi’s role is to engage Chamber members.  She referenced 3 active leads groups and regular events such as the monthly membership meeting and a new “Quittin’ Time with the Chamber” afterhours social event.  Our Ambuc club will once again partner with the Chamber on the (expanded) beer tent next July 3rd in downtown Grandville.  Save that date to work the tent and enjoy a couple of cold ones with friends.

50/50 Winner:   We had the less lucrative double drawing today – Kristine Kading won $6 and Beth won $7.

Oklahoma City – 4     Griffins – 1

December 5 was the Griffins game.  All our game tickets were sold resulting in a profit of about $1800.  The Throw-For-Dough take has not yet been reported but the young hockey players who sold those pucks did a great job.  We also gave away an AmTryke to a grateful U.S. veteran who attended the game and spent the night downtown courtesy of our club.  Many thanks to Kelli Williams for making this a successful club fundraising event.

More AmTrykes

The club has provided 3 AmTrykes to Hudsonville Bauer Elementary School.  We received some colorful thank you notes from that school at today’s meeting.  Next up:  swings to Bauer and Park Elementary Schools.

Oscars Part II

Everyone should be saving Saturday, February 21 for the 2015 Oscar’s Night gala – a fun night of dinner, dancing, drinks (included in the ticket price this year), silent auction and three comedians.  The $75 tickets will raise money for the Kenowa Ambucs, Grandville Rotary Club and Jenison-Hudsonville Community Foundation.
