Kenowa Klassified – 4/15/14

The Official Newsletter of the Kenowa Chapter of AMBUCS – Chartered May 28, 1957. President: Jason Minier – Vice-President: Beth Van Wieren Treasurer: Doug Levering Secretary: Kelli Williams – Sergeants: Kay Janus and David Hodge

Today’s Meeting:

19 Kenowa Ambucs were present today plus 3 guests – David Peerboom and Jim from New York Life (guests of Eric Hartman) and Dennis Kavanaugh (guest of Heather Schaedig) with Credit Card Processors.  We also welcomed back snow-birds Cook and Engels.

Our featured speaker today was Troy Manning from Bibles International.  Their Mission is to provide a conservative bible translation in every language and to put a bible in every hand.  His organization has been hard at work for 33 years.  So far they have completed translation of 32 scriptures, with seven more coming in 2014.  They estimate that there are currently approximately 7,000 languages in the world, and at least 4,000 of those don’t have any scripture.  To add to the complexity of the mission, several of those languages don’t have any written language and cannot read.  In addition to translating the bible, Troy’s organization also helps these developing nations create a written language and how to read it.  They currently have 42 active projects in 15 different countries.

Bill Schrader along with the American Legion are hosting a Micro Brew festival at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds on May 3 from 1-6 PM.  Tickets are $35; contact Bill ( if you are interested in tickets.

Mavis has arranged for a fly-by for the Memorial Day Parade!  A sign-up sheet went around today, but we will need more people to sign up to volunteer at our next couple meetings to make sure we are fully staffed.

50/50 Winners:  Kay Janus and Jim from New York Life.

Spring Roundup

March and April are the months of the annual Ambuc “Spring Roundup” of new members.  So far Eric Harman, David Hodge, Rod Weersing, and Heather Schaedig are the only four members that have brought a guest.  If any of them sign up by the end of the month, you’ll have that much better of a chance at winning the grand prize at our May 6 meeting.

Beth is working on a July 3 beer tent fundraiser in Grandville in conjunction with the 4th of July festivities.  Further details will be coming in the future but save that evening to help out either with the tent or the drinking.

Chapter Miscellaneous

Griffins Game:  Still no totals on the dollars we raised at the March 7 hockey game.  We hope to have a report on this soon.
